4 FAQs About Bespoke Baby Feet Casts

Every little baby is a miracle in their own right and they deserve to be celebrated as such! Sadly, the baby years simply fly by and before you know it, they’ve got their driving licence and have their own favourite liqueur… quite the grown ups!

As tough as it can be to have little feet pitter-pattering around, you’re going to want to immortalise these precious moments - and what better way to do so than by having baby feet casts made, a truly wonderful way to preserve a snapshot in time.

But what exactly does the process involve? What actually happens during a casting session?

Here are some of the more frequently asked questions we hear from clients - but if you need any further help or advice, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What happens during a baby casting session?

The process is surprisingly simple and only takes 25-30 minutes, depending on how many casts you want. All it involves is taking a mould of the foot or hand using alginate powder which is a non-toxic seaweed-based impression powder and safe to use on even the most delicate skin.

How long does it take for the mould to set?

It only takes a matter of minutes for the impression powder to set, which is perfect for little ones who are prone to wriggling! Short attention spans aren’t a problem here so don’t worry if your child isn’t sleepy or needs a feed.

We’ll be done very quickly indeed - but it’s advisable to bring toys or snacks as a distraction, just in case.

What should my baby wear for the casting session?

It can be a little messy, so don’t dress your baby in their Sunday best. Opt for old clothes that are loose enough to facilitate easy rolling of sleeves and trouser legs.

When will the baby casts be ready?

Lead times depend on the material you’ve chosen. Bronze, for example, takes 20 to 25 working weeks. For metal plating, add on an extra two to three weeks. Glass and plaster, meanwhile, take eight to 12 weeks. For engraving, an extra two to three weeks may apply.
